Day 12 – Man without a Team

Day 12 – 7 Miles – Today was supposed to be a rest day with a team run tomorrow, but alas, I will be out of town in an area not conducive to a 7 mile run.   So I was going to run this morning, but I thought better of it after two straight days of running.  So when I got home from work, the weather looked good and I really did not want to wait until Sunday to run so 1:30 P.M. I was out the door.  After about 3 minutes I could tell why the schedule has this as a rest day.  My legs were feeling it pretty much immediately, but after about 5 minutes that ache went away and the run went pretty well.  My pace was 10:31/mile which was not bad since I had to stop at major roads a couple of times to cross.

Have you ever noticed that up hill stretches of road seam very steep and long and down hil stretches seem short and flat?  The amazing thing is, if you turn around and run the other way, the same thing applies.  It’s a freak of nature!

You know how they say (who ever “they” is)  that “Character is who you are when no one is looking.”  I thought about that a lot today.  It would be easy to stop and walk or cut a corner here or there and no one would know.  That is what is so cool about this journey.  Cutting corners or cheating can not be hidden in the end.  If we do not work the plan, we will not achieve the goal and no excuses can change that.  The team is great accountability and we need it, but in the end, the real accountability occurs on April 26th, in Louisville.   No lie will help us finish that run.

“But if you fail to do this, you will be sinning against the Lord; and you may be sure that your sin will find you out.” (Numbers 32:23)

  1. WAY TO GO CHUCK!!!! Sorry you had to run alone, but now you can say you finished 7 miles before the rest of us. You are the man. I had the same urges the other day while running on the treadmill. Fortunately, I finished up outside and was ultimately glad I didn’t stop…check out my new blog entry
