The Maraman – Still Pressing On

Winter bluesCrazyoldmaraman was established to journal my attempt to  over come years of neglect. After losing much of my passion for life, struggling with health issues, sliding backwards spiritually and falling into physical decline I was challenged with the opportunity to run a marathon.  I set up a blog to journal the process, renew my passion for writing, and to help me remain accountable.

The marathon was a great experience and did remind me that I still had some gas in the tank but …

No earthly goal can drive us to our created purpose. Although setting an eye on an intermediate destination, it is important to realize that it is only a way-station.  As often is the case when using scripture to motivate us, I did not complete the thought which is ironic when the scripture is centered around finishing.

Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” (Phil 3:12-14 ESV)

So what was that goal again?  Running a marathon? …uhm no!  What about that unclaimed prize?

That was 2008 … fast forward to 2013.  Injury, more backward motion, and a some really cool redirection by my God and maybe it is time to read the next couple of verses.  I hope I can handle it.

“Let those of us who are mature think this way, and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal that also to you. Only let us hold true to what we have attained.” (Phil 3:15-16 ESV)

I think that maybe it is time to mature, let God reveal some things to me and hold on to what He has already given me.

I hope to run again, but if I do not, that will not keep me from pressing on for the prize.

No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:37-39)
